Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 unit egg
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine baking powder with flour and add to the mixture one cup at a time, mixing after each addition.
  5. Roll out dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
  6. Place cookies on an ungreased baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.
  7. Cool on wire racks before decorating.
