Dough
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 packet Active dry yeast
- ¼ cup Sugar
- ½ cup Milk warmed
- ¼ cup Butter melted
- 1 Egg beaten
- ½ teaspoon Salt
1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
2. Add melted butter, beaten egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually add flour and mix until a dough forms.
3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces.
5. Flatten each piece of dough and wrap it around a sausage, pinching the seams to seal.
6. Place kolaches on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
