Ingredients

Pupusa Ingredients

  • 2 cups masa harina
  • 1.5 cups warm water
  • 1 cup shredded cheese quesillo, mozzarella, or Monterey Jack
  • 1 cup refried beans optional

Instructions

  1. 1. In a large bowl, mix masa harina and warm water until a dough forms. Let it rest for 5 minutes.
  2. 2. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.
  3. 3. Flatten each ball into a disc, place a tablespoon of cheese (and beans if using) in the center, and fold the edges over to enclose the filling. Flatten again gently.
  4. 4. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook each pupusa for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
