Ingredients

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup warm water
  • 6 large eggs
  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Oil for frying
  • Extra sugar for coating

Instructions 

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, beat eggs, sugar, and evaporated milk together.
  3. Add melted butter, salt, and yeast mixture.
  4. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Cover and let rise until doubled in size.
  6. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot.
  7. Scoop dough with a spoon and drop into hot oil.
  8. Fry until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.
  9. Roll in sugar while still warm.
