King Cake Recipe

Dough
- 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 2.25 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 0.5 cup warm milk
- 0.5 cup melted butter
- 3 eggs beaten
- 1 teaspoon salt
Glaze
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- as needed colored sugars for decoration
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
2. Add melted butter, beaten eggs, remaining sugar, and salt. Mix well.
3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms. Knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down dough and shape into a ring. Place on a baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool completely.
7. For the glaze, mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled cake and sprinkle with colored sugars.
