Main Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1.5 cups warm water 110°F
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups bread flour
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
Stir in salt, oil, and 2 cups of flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in remaining flour, ½ cup at a time, until the dough is stiff.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl and turn to coat. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 1 hour.
Punch down dough and divide into 6 equal portions. Shape each portion into a round ball. Place on a greased baking sheet and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool on wire racks.
