  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk

Instructions 

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead briefly.
  5. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet. Cut a deep cross on top of the loaf.
  6. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  7. Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
