Main Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 ¾ cups buttermilk
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
In a large bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Mix until you have a soft dough.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly.
Shape into a round loaf and place on a baking sheet.
Cut a deep cross on top of the loaf.
Bake for 30-45 minutes, or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
Cool on a wire rack.
