Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk

Instructions 

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  4. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Mix until you have a soft dough.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly.
  6. Shape into a round loaf and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Cut a deep cross on top of the loaf.
  8. Bake for 30-45 minutes, or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  9. Cool on a wire rack.
