Ingredients

  • 1 cup Basmati rice rinsed
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee or oil
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 pcs Bay leaves

Instructions 

  1. 1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. 2. In a saucepan, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat.
  3. 3. Add the cumin seeds and bay leaves, and sauté for a minute until fragrant.
  4. 4. Add the rinsed rice and sauté for another 2 minutes, ensuring the rice is well-coated with the ghee or oil.
  5. 5. Add the water and salt, and bring to a boil.
  6. 6. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
  7. 7. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for another 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork before serving.
