Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Dried split peas
  • 1 lb Ham bone
  • 1 Large onion, chopped
  • 2 Carrots, chopped
  • 2 Celery stalks, chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 8 cups Chicken broth
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 pcs Bay leaves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions 

  1. Rinse the split peas under cold water.
  2. In a large pot, combine all ingredients except salt. Bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove the ham bone, chop any meat, and return to the pot. Discard bay leaves.
  5. Season with salt to taste. Serve hot.
