Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cold butter cut into small pieces
  • cup cold water

Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup green olives chopped
  • ¼ cup raisins
  • 1 egg beaten, for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add water, a little at a time, until dough forms. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. In a skillet, cook beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until beef is browned. Drain fat. Stir in cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, olives, and raisins. Cook for another 5 minutes. Let cool.
  4. Roll out dough on a floured surface. Cut into circles using a round cutter. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each circle. Fold dough over filling and press edges to seal. Brush with beaten egg.
  5. Place empanadas on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
