Ingredients

Rolls

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 ¼ teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil

Topping

  • ½ cup rice flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup warm water

Instructions

  1. 1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast for the rolls. Add warm water and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. 2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  3. 3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a roll and place on a baking sheet.
  4. 4. For the topping, combine rice flour, sugar, yeast, salt, and warm water. Mix until smooth. Spread the topping over each roll.
  5. 5. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the rolls are golden brown and the topping is cracked and crunchy. Let cool on a wire rack.
