Main Ingredients
- 1 cup dates, chopped
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter softened
- 1 unit egg beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1.5 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup chopped nuts walnuts or pecans
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan.
In a bowl, combine the chopped dates, boiling water, and baking soda. Let it sit for 15 minutes.
In another bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Add the beaten egg and vanilla extract, and mix well.
Stir in the date mixture. Gradually add the flour, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chopped nuts.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
