Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions 

  1. 1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until well combined.
  2. 2. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it begins to simmer. Do not boil.
  3. 3. Gradually whisk the hot milk into the egg mixture, then return the mixture to the saucepan.
  4. 4. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  5. 5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
