- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter 2 sticks
- 1 cup water
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Frosting
- ½ cup unsalted butter 1 stick
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ cup milk
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking sheet.
In a mixing bowl, combine flour and sugar.
In a saucepan, melt butter. Add water and cocoa powder. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
Pour cocoa mixture over flour and sugar. Mix well.
Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, vanilla, and salt. Mix until smooth.
Pour batter into prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes.
For the frosting, melt butter in a saucepan. Add cocoa powder and milk. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
Pour frosting over warm cake. Let it cool before serving.
